My traveling problems: a kid and a goat in a bakkie

A health worker and the clinic cleaner giving polio vaccine drops for the under 5s. They're pretty serious about it because of that whole outbreak last year. The closest case to Anker was in Kamanjab, about 70 K away, but still, they're thorough and the whole country is supposed to be immunized.

The outside of the church

This is the inside of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Anker


This is Anjelika Christiaan, one of the church elders and about the closest thing to a pastor that the church has. An ordained pastor shows up about twice a year to marry people and baptize babies- the rest of the time the church is run by the elders and Anjelika Christiaan is one of three elders who are there almost every Sunday.

Baby baboon and people in Anker

Esegiel and a baby baboon
So, I saw a whole bunch of kids all crowded together shouting and
screaming. I came over and this was what I saw. Apparently a whole
herd of baboons ran through the village and somehow this baby got stuck
behind. Esegiel was feeding it with bits of biscuit. The baby is

holding him just like he's its mama.

The first picture is an Elephant, the next one a photo of one of the waterholes, the third photo is a rhino at the waterhole (sorry, the camera's not very good), the next two are the inside of the bus (this is how we traveled home, on the way up it was even more full since we hadn't eaten the food and we hadn't used the 25 litres of diesel. As a teacher, I was lucky enough to not have to have anyone sit on my lap.) The last picture is breakfast-one of the hostel matrons stiring a poitjie pot (think cauldron) full of porridge with a wooden stick.
